TORONTO – Loadlink Technologies’ Canadian spot market once again showed monthly growth from November, with load volumes rising seven percent in December but still saw a decline of 31 percent from 2021’s record-high December volumes.

Outbound Cross-border Activity

Outbound loads from Canada to the United States fell slightly by four percent from last month and were down 34 percent from this time last year. Equipment postings also fell by 17 percent from November but are up 25 percent year-over-year.

Inbound Cross-border Activity

Inbound loads rose significantly by 39 percent compared to November but was down 36 percent on a year-over-year basis. Equipment postings were down 23 percent from November but up 26 percent from last December.

Intra-Canadian Activity

Freight activity within Canada fell slightly by seven percent from decent gains in November. Year-over-year, load postings decreased by 23 percent. Equipment postings fell 20 percent month-over-month but were up 13 percent year-over-year.

Average Truck-to-Load Ratios

The truck-to-load ratio in December of 2.13 was 26 percent lower than the 2.86 trucks for every load posted in November. Year-over-year, December’s truck-to-load ratio was 76 percent higher than the ratio of 1.21 seen in December 2021.
