Canada’s spot market opened the summer well ahead of last year. Loadlink’s latest data shows overall freight volumes were 46% higher than June 2025. Freight volumes eased 4% from May, but outbound, inbound and domestic load postings all remained above last June.

Truck availability increased at the same time. Loadlink’s truck-to-load ratio rose 20% to 2.34 trucks per load, up from 1.96 in May, giving brokers more available carriers to work with. Even with that monthly increase, the ratio remained 30% below June 2025’s 3.35, meaning carriers still faced less competition for each posted load than they did a year ago.

Canadian Freight Index Highlights

· Month-over-month: Volumes decreased 4% compared to May 2026.
· Year-over-year: Volumes increased 46% compared to June 2025.

Cross-Border Highlights

Cross-border freight remained the largest portion of activity, accounting for 62% of postings from Canadian-based customers.

  • Outbound loads from Canada to the U.S. decreased 7% month-over-month but were 86% higher year-over-year. Equipment postings increased 20% from May and were 12% lower than June 2025.
  • Inbound loads from the U.S. to Canada increased 2% month-over-month and were 29% higher year-over-year. Equipment postings rose 10% from May and were 30% higher year-over-year.

More trucks were posted in both directions during June, giving brokers more options than in May. Outbound freight continued to stand out year-over-year, with load activity up sharply while equipment postings remained below last June.

Intra-Canada Freight

Domestic freight accounted for 37% of postings in June.

  • Month-over-month: Loads within Canada decreased 9% compared to May.
  • Year-over-year: Volumes were 48% higher compared to June 2025.
  • Equipment postings increased 15% month-over-month and 12% year-over-year.

Domestic activity cooled from May but remained far ahead of last year. Higher equipment postings gave brokers more trucks to work with, while strong annual load growth kept Canadian lanes active heading into summer.

Equipment Trends

Top equipment postings in June:

  • Dry Vans: 55%
  • Flatbeds: 22%
  • Reefers: 21%
  • Other: 2%

Dry vans continued to account for more than half of equipment postings. Flatbeds represented the second-largest share in June, narrowly ahead of reefers.

Truck-to-Load Ratio

The truck-to-load ratio in June was 2.34 trucks for every load posted on Loadlink.

  • Month-over-month: Up from 96 in May 2026, a 20% increase, reflecting greater truck availability.
  • Year-over-year: Down 30% compared to 35 in June 2025.

More trucks were available in June than in May, giving brokers more choice when covering loads. Because the ratio remained well below last year, carriers continued to face less competition for available freight.

June Expands Coverage Options Across the Market

June remained well ahead of last year across every major load category, even as overall activity eased from May. Rising truck postings gave brokers more capacity to work with, while the lower year-over-year truck-to-load ratio continued to support carriers. Together, the figures point to a summer market with more freight than last year and more available trucks than in May.

June brought a healthier balance to the market. Freight activity remained well ahead of last year, while the increase in available trucks gave brokers more flexibility when securing coverage. Carriers still had strong opportunities across key lanes, creating a solid start to the summer, said James Reyes, General Manager at Loadlink.

Loadlink continues to provide the visibility and insights members need to track freight activity, respond to changing truck availability, and make confident decisions as the summer market develops.
