TransCore’s Driverlink Job Site Sees Unexpected Rise in New Driver Signups
TORONTO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–While the industry is struggling to find capacity to meet the uptick in freight volume, TransCore’s Link Logistics’Driverlink website expanded its database by over 5 percent with new driver and owner operator signups. In the first quarter of 2011, over 800 new jobseekers signed up and created online profiles in the Driverlink community and over 250 new jobs in transportation.
“This is remarkable in spite of the critical driver shortage the industry is facing,” explained Claudia Milicevic, general manager of TransCore’s Canadian-based Link Logistics. “We’ve registered over 50 new drivers and owner operators every week and over 1,000 drivers are logging in every month. Driverlink also receives considerably more visitors that search available positions and contact companies on their postings.”
Driverlink helps carriers combat recruiting challenges by providing access to an online job board listing with qualified drivers and available positions.
The Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council (CTHRC) is projecting that 164,000 for-hire drivers will be needed in Canada in 2012. This represents an increase of 13,000 drivers more than in 2009.
Linda Gauthier, executive director of CTHRC, explained, “The shortage of qualified drivers is not a supply side issue, but rather a training/qualification issue. Following the recession, carriers may no longer just put a driver behind the wheel; they can no longer afford to do that.”
Driverlink.com is utilized by highway drivers and owner operators who use the site to search for local and long-haul jobs, including both regional and cross border work. Drivers and owner operators can post resumes, training history, certifications, number of accidents and other beneficial information, in addition to searching for employment and receiving leads from carriers on available job opportunities.
Driverlink.com was expanded last year to encompass all jobs in transportation, including dock workers, dispatchers, sales, customer service as well as other positions. Since 2001, Driverlink.com has been the industry’s foremost leader in matching qualified drivers with carriers.
The Driverlink site is available to job seekers at no charge and on a subscription basis to carriers to post job openings and search for available drivers who match their needs.
